What is Pilates?
Pilates is a method of total body conditioning that builds core strength and increases flexibility throughout the body. Created by Joseph H. Pilates nearly eighty years ago, this method combines proper breathing with hundreds of technical exercises. Pilates will leave you feeling lengthened, strong and centered.
Mat Training
One of the most cost effective and convenient ways to participate in Pilates training is through group mat classes. These classes focus on strengthening the deep abdominal and spinal muscles while increasing flexibility throughout the body. The basic Pilates mat class is for students of all fitness levels. See current aerobic schedule for class times.
Apparatus Training
Pilates exercises can also be performed on specially designed Pilates equipment. The three main pieces of Pilates equipment include the Reformer, the Trapeze Table (or Cadillac) and the Chair. Our studio houses all three machines to help each client elongate, strengthen and balance her musculature system.
Personal Pilates training is customized to meet each client's needs. Programs can be gentle enough for beginners and pregnant women, yet rigorous enough for the super-fit. Clients are required to purchase an Introductory Package before committing to greater numbers of sessions.
Apparatus training is offered on a private and semi-private basis. Sessions are scheduled by appointment only, and need to be arranged with your Pilates trainer directly. See the front desk for scheduling instructions. New members will receive a complimentary Pilates orientation (effective November 2002).
